cannot run regedit in Vista Home Premium

I cannot run regedit in Vista Home Premium, despite having tried System restore and or running regedit as administrator

  1. What exactly happens when you run regedit?
  2. Do you get any error message?

I would suggest you to follow these steps and check if it helps.

Method 1:

Try booting the computer in safe mode and check if you can run regedit, here is the link:

Method 2:
Try performing system file checker and see if it helps, here are the steps:

  1. Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator.
  2. Click Continue or supply Administrator credentials if prompted.
  3. In the Command Prompt window type the following, and press Enter:
    sfc /scannow
