Hi sue168 and sarah,
if you run a McAfee program that includes an antispy/malware application, please see: http://www.vista4beginners.com/How-to-disable-Windows-Defender

Hope this helps,

I just downloaded a bunch of application and did a lot of work on my computer.

I do however, have samantic endpoint virus protection and did a couple of scans with no problems.

When i try to open windows defender i am getting an error that says.

Application failed to initialize: 0 x 800106ba.  A problem caused this program's service to stop.  To start the service restart your computer or search Help and Support for how to start a service manually.

I restarted and tried to open it but got the same error.  I searched help and support and also found nothing.

Both Norton and Semantic will disable Windows Defender.

Because they have their own version of Virus protection.

Can you say, "Catch-22"?? Step 1 of the solution to disabling Windows Defender because of an error message saying it won't start is "Launch Windows Defender." Wtf??? Can someone propose a more sensible solution than suggesting we start a program that won't start?
