mini JVC DVD -RW recorded in Hitachi camcorder is showing 'disc error-repair

Mini JVC DVD -RW recorded in Hitachi camcorder is showing 'disc error-repair' but I cannot do this.  I have downloaded trial version of CDRoller and it confirms that the disc is readable but states that the trial version cannot save the info to a file. I have also downloaded PowerDVD-Cyberlink but I am going round in circles.  Anyone got any suggestions as to what I can do to be able to view this disk. It is of a special holiday in Italy but I will not pay £100 as quoted by one technical site.

Please do not get too technical as I am a novice not a whiz kid.

Two suggestions.

1) Right click the .VOB file and from the menu choose...
 Properties / General tab / Change button...

From the menu...choose...
VLC Media Player / OK / Apply / OK...

Now left click the .VOB file and VLC should launch it.

2) Try right click/renaming the xxx.VOB file to xxx.MPG...
now Windows Media Player should play the file.
