How do I rename multiple files in Windows Explorer with numbers I choose?

Applies To:

I have Windows Vista Ultimate, when I try to rename multiple .jpg files it will not let me choose my starting number. It automatically defaults to 1.

You cannot rename multiple files at a time by design in the OS. However, Try this at your risk:

When you have the photos you wish to rename selected (highlighted)
right click the first photo and from the menu choose...Rename.

Enter a base name for the group...and the first number as follows...

Summer (10001).jpg

Leave a space between the last letter and the first parenthesis.

And yes...you could begin with a higher number...

Summer (10335).jpg for example.

When you press Enter...Windows will rename the remaing files.
