Hi,

Did you recently install another player?

Right Click Taskbar - Task Manager - Processes and see if WMPlayer.exe is already running hidden.
If so end process on it.

Do these to clear corruption and repair/replace damaged/missing system files.

Start - type in Search box -  COMMAND   find at top of list -  RIGHT CLICK  -  RUN AS ADMIN

sfc /scannow

Then run checkdisk - schedule it to run at next start and then Apply OK your way out then restart.

Determine if 32 or 64 bit.

Start - type in Search box ->  Winver   find at top and double click on - check version

If 64 bit :

Read this 1st and either go that route or use the one below.

If 64 bit Vista - can run WMP in 32 or 64 bit mode.

Or try these :  Download - SAVE - go to where your put them RIGHT CLICK - RUN AS ADMIN.

For 32 bit use these  - OR the ones listed above which I prefer.

VLC needs no Codec usually so use it as a backup, when it asks to take over file associations just say no.
