Help? 100 percent CPU usage in Vista

I have Vista and my CPU usage is staying at 100% although I am not running any programs.  A couple of days ago when i shut it down there were like 13 updates that went through and since this problem has been happening.  Any help?

Do you see any error message? If yes, what is the complete and exact error message?

 

Method 1:

If you do not have Windows Vista Service Pack 1 installed, I would suggest you to upgrade to service pack 1. This seems to be an issue that has been fixed in the Windows Vista SP1 release.

Method 2:

I would suggest you try to run Microsoft Safety Scanner for any spyware or malware infection and check if it helps.

Note: Any data files that are infected may only be cleaned by deleting the file entirely, which means there is a potential for data loss.

 

Method 3:

Refer the link to use the system file checker tool (sfc) to troubleshoot missing or corrupted system files in Windows 7.
