I keep seeing this "Interactive Services Dialog Detection" window.  How may I disable or remove it altogether?

Hi Bennett,

To disable Interactive Services Dialog Detection messages in Vista, search the word “services” in your Start menu, click on Services when it comes up, and find Interactive Services Detection in the list of services. Right click it, and click Properties. Here, you can either Stop the service, or choose “Disabled” from the Startup Type menu. Either of these things will stop these messages from appearing.

Or:

Open Control Panel

Double click ‘Administrative Services’

Double-click “Services”

Right click - ‘Interactive Services’ from list in Window

Select ‘Stop’

Right click - select Properties

In ‘Startup type’ select ‘Disable’

Click “OK”

Done - unless you want to reboot to make double-sure it worked.

Thanks much as to how you can 'enable/disable' the service. My question is I would like to know more about the service, where in the 'script manager' are scripts which make calls to the service and how events trigger calls to scripts to send messages to the service? I have some script somewhere making calls to a script which is missing the ".vbs" extenion. I would like to know which script is making this call and what event is the reason for the call.

Thanks much,

RBBenson

I found the information helpful as well, but I don't want to disable the service because it says in control panel that I won't have access to the program.  Here is my issue.  At the university where I am employed, to access web based services such as the student system (for faculty like me) we have to use a VPN.  To access the VPN, we use Cisco Systems VPN client.  I have the program in my startup list of programs because I use it all the time.  In the last couple of weeks, whenever the program tries to start, the interactive services dialog detection window appears, and I have to postpone what I am doing to respond.  How can have windows simply allow the VPN client to startup like my other startup programs, and skip the interactive services dialog detection?

Microsoft no longer permits services running under System to interact with users.  My guess is you log into your workstation and connect via vpn when you want to access the University network.  The reason you are probably seeing this prompt is because of a setting in the vpn client.  The interactive service should only be an issue prior to logon.  In Win 7 you won't see anything cause it is blocked.  Once you log into your workstation....and try to run the vpn client it then sparks the pending popups. (my guess)

I would suggest checking your settings:  Open the vpn client, Options, Windows Logon Properties

Deselect the "Enable start before logon"  This should make your errors/prompts to away.

If the university has logon scripts or drive mappings that get setup on logon...you would also have to deselect the "Disconnect VPN connection when logging off".   This will allow you to connect via vpn...log off the workstation and relog on.
