I can't find "save to desktop" in the save as dialog box for an excel file on Win7

Actually I can't see how to save any sort of file to my desktop with Win 7 and MS Office Pro 2007.

I know this is a really old question, but I thought I'd respond just in case someone would like this issue resolved.

When in the "Save As" dialog box, right-click on "Favorites" and choose "Restore Favorite Links."  The desktop icon will return.

I did not post in the excel forum because this problem happens in all my MS Office Pro 2007 programs.  When I follow your suggested steps:

"Open Excel > click the Office button > Save As > near top left, click MORE > see desktop icon now ? > click desktop"

there is no more the save as only has commands for saving in several formats but the dialogue box that opens does not show desktop as a destination to save to.  The only destinations listed are;  templates, favorites, libraies, homegroup, computer, WIN7C, and network.  I have explored all those and can not find any "desktop"

Is Desktop not listed under Favorites on the left side of the Save as
dialog box? Just click it.

But note that I strongly recommend against saving data files to the
desktop. My recommendation is that you put nothing but shortcuts on
the desktop. There are two things wrong with putting real files there:

1. One day you will likely delete a real file there, thinking you were
just deleting a shortcut to it.

2. You will clutter up the desktop with too many files, making it hard
to find what you are looking for.

You should put your Excel files (and other real data files) in the
Documents folder. If you have a few such files that you will want to
access often, put shortcuts to those files on the desktop.
