[Win 98, IE 6 SP1] Windows Update redirect loop

It seems like whenever I try to access Windows Update from my Windows 98 SE virtual machine (yes, it's old :P But Windows Update is still supported, right?), Windows Update seems to send internet explorer into some kind of redirect loop. It will never load the page, but it will just keep trying to jump between http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/default.aspx and http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us. I've tried accessing windows update with multiple versions of IE 5, as well as IE6, and SP1.

Has anyone else seen this issue? I know most of us are familiar with Windows Update in the form of a program that we can launch from the start menu (using Vista and 7 here as well), although this issue seems like one that was introduced recently. I hope this doesn't mean Microsoft is trying to erase 9.x forever.

Could it be possible that Microsoft has completely dumped 9.x from Windows Update?

Effective July 11, 2006, Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, and Windows Me (and their related components) will transition to a non-supported status. After this date, Microsoft will no longer provide any incident support options or security updates. Microsoft is not offering a custom support agreement for these products.

What does that mean, exactly? I recall being able to connect to Windows Update many times after the aforementioned date.

Does this mean that the community is not allowed to offer support, that microsoft can drop support from windows update on a whim, or what?

*On a side note, I'm not looking for new updates. I'm looking to update that machine to what ever is available.

I am unable to test the site you are referring to.

The link I gave you was for Windows 98 Microsoft Support which included Download details - Windows 98.

Oh, newer OS probably?

So right now, it's more of a matter of me having to find exactly what downloads I need, rather than normally searching and downloading every critical update for Windows 98 through windows update?

I was looking through some of the webpage source for the pages that were giving me trouble, and so far, I'm not seeing very promising results - For the user agent information, the earliest OS I can see in there is Windows 2000. Could it be possible that Microsoft has completely dumped 9.x from Windows Update?
