Hello lmttag,
1. Have

I suggest that you try to start your computer in ‘Safe Mode’ and check if you are able to boot going past the configuring updates sreen.
Follow the below steps to boot the computer to ‘Safe Mode’:
a. Restart
your computer if it is powered on.
b. Tap
the F8 key after your computer initially powers on.
c. Once
you see the Advanced Boot Options menu you can stop tapping.
d. Use
the up/down arrow keys to highlight your selection.
e. Select
Safe Mode and press Enter.
f. Logon
to your computer using an account with Administrator privileges.
If you are able to boot the computer in ‘Safe Mode’, I suggest that you do a System Restore on the computer choosing a restore point before installing
Service Pack 1.
a. Click
Start, type system restore in the Start Search box, and then click System Restore in the Programs list.
b. If
you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password or click Continue.

the System Restore dialog box, click Choose a different restore point, and then click Next.
d. In
the list of restore points, click a restore point that was created before you began to experience the issue, and then click Next.
