windows update (KB958687) error 800f0900

This update fails to install both through the windows automatic update and  when manually downloaded through microsoft.com. without it I can't get the rest of the updates or even install windows vista sp1. I would love help asap if possible.

Thanks for posting your question in Microsoft Vista Community Forums. Folow the Steps below to resolve your issue:

 

Step 1:  Follow the link and run the “Fix It” tool which helps resetting Windows Update components

Step 2:  Download and save the update from the link below on to the desktop and then try to install the update and check.
