Making Notes with the Pen in Microsoft Sudoku

Does someone know if those instructions work only on the Surface Pro 3? I use a Surface Pro 2 with a UP-911 pen, but I was unable to get those things to work. Also note that the game is being run on the Windows 10 Technical Preview, not Windows 8.1.

I found that the note thing does work. Perhaps I was pressing the incorrect button. I am not sure. It is about as weird as All apps not being in the Start menu in tablet mode then seemingly "suddenly" appearing. By the way,

1. I hadn't tried the game on windows 8.1. I found it only recently.
