Cannot Install Games for Windows Live

I need to install Games for Windows Live to play several games on this laptop.

When I run gfwlivesetup, everything downloads fine and gets to the point where it is installing GFWL and I receive the following error every time:

"An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft.VC90.CRT,version="9.0.21022.8",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",processorArchitecture="x86",type="win32"'. Please refer to Help and Support for more information."

Looking through several log files, I discover the error code to be (0x8007078f) which relates to, "Logon Failure: The machine you are logging onto is protected by an authentication firewall. The specified account is not allowed to authenticate to the machine."

So two things come to mind. Authenticated account and firewall. Well, my account is an administrator account, and right-clicking gfwlivesetup and choosing, "Run as administrator" doesn't change a thing. Well, screw the router, I just take the modem jack right out of my router and plug it instead into my laptop's ethernet jack, bypassing any ports that might be blocked. The only firewall that is up and running (the only one installed) is the MS OS firewall, so let's just turn that baby off and ... still the same error.

So if we just ignore the error code (0x8007078f) completely, then we can deal with the originally presented error ...I basically see: processorArchitecture="x86",type="win32".

Well, I am running a 64-Bit Windows 7, and my processor is a Core i7-740 so.... I'm at wits' end here. I've seen a lot of people having the same/similar issue (Google reveals much). So if anyone is willing to stick with me throughout this, I intend to see it solved (at least for me). I only pray as much that I don't have to reinstall Win 7 or do any repairs. They didn't include any of those DVDs with the laptop.

Thanks in Advance,

Jimmi G
