Hi Leonard,

We are glad to know that you have chosen Windows 8 and thank you for providing us this opportunity to assist you on Microsoft Community Forums.

You have mentioned that you keep getting the error code: 80072F76 or dt 000(1) while trying to run the Windows Updates on your new Dell Latitude 10 ST2 computer. For a better understanding, I would like to have some information regarding your computer.

1.       Is the Internet Connection on your computer working fine? Are you able to browse the website without any issues?

2.       Did you try running the Windows Updates again after waiting for some time?

3.       Do you have any third party security program on this computer?

These errors are usually caused by small interruptions in communications between the computer to be updated and the Windows Update Servers. These issues usually resolve themselves. But, sometime they persist by leaving the computer out dated. As the first step, you may close Windows Update, wait 10 to 15 minutes, and then run Windows Update again. You can also wait for Windows Update to run at its next scheduled time. If that doesn’t fix the issue, then let’s try the following methods and check if that helps.

Method 1: Run the Windows Update Troubleshooter.

This troubleshooter is an automated Windows 8 inbuilt tool which finds and fixes the common issues preventing the Windows Updates. You may run this tool from this link:

http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9767096

If the tool was unable to find and fix the issue, then try the next method and check if that resolves the issue.

Method 2:  Temporary connection-related errors may occur when you use Windows Update or Microsoft Update

I would suggest you to refer the article: “Temporary connection-related errors may occur when you use Windows Update or Microsoft Update” and to try all the troubleshooting steps for Windows 8 given in it from this link:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/836941

Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you're connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

You may also refer the article "How to solve connection problems with Windows Updategiven in this link:

This should resolve the issue. However, if you the issue still persist, please do get back to us with the results of the above methods for further assistance. We’ll be glad to assist you from here.
