I have the same problem.  I purchased the DVD, and tried the USB option, tried the DVD option and also copied it to a different HDD.

I tried numerous times to install Widnoiws 8 Pro upgrade on my Windows 7 Ultiamte (64 bit) machine.  I downloaded the file tiwce and made two DVD's.

The last time it failed was after running for several hours at 72%.

I do ntol ahve a WebSetUp file anywhere on my computer.

I was able to successfully install it by creating a USB - HDD from the DVD using some tools to create a bootable USB.  I was then able to install Windows from scratch and now I am using it.

What sucks is that I have to install the applications all over again, but I didn't have too much on there, and I had already copied the profiles anyways.

I worked it out in the end with some assistance from the Microsoft help chat chappie.

Help chat chappie told me that events occurring during the install are logged to the System Log in Event Viewer after which I was home free.

I reran the install noting the exact time of the failure (again at 29%) then checked out the System Log.

This indicated an issue with my hard drive, and looking back through the log there were other occurances all at about the time of my previous install failures.

So ran a check disk let it do what it needed to do and it went in first time after that.  I am typing this from within my new and rather excellent IE10!

Top Tip - If you want to know why it failed then Event Viewer -> System Log is a good start point.

And it was not a Microsoft Issue.

I updated my NVIDIA video driver and I got past the 72% but it failed later.

Then, I diabled boot fromt he CD and took off all peripherals except the monitors, keyboard, mouse and network (Internet) connection.  I diabled all startup software except those needed to run the computer.

It ran all the way to end and then told me it failed to install.

I have no idea what to do.  I am in no mood to buy a new computer.

I just want to know how I get a refund. I didn't buy W8 expecting to spend 10 hours fooling with installation issues.
