disc read error, error loading operating system- windows 8 pro

Upgraded to windows 8 pro, now it does not boot- says either error loading operating system or disc read error.  Re installed  win8 after booting with another hard drive with winXP, worked fine for sometime, then it failed again displaying the same error messages.  Been using this system since long, but this has never happened before. Any solutions? Thanks.

Hi,

It’s unfortunate that you are getting an error “error loading operating system” while trying to start the computer.

I can imagine the inconvenience you have experienced. I will certainly help you with this.

-  What is the make and model of the computer?

Let’s follow these methods and check if it helps.

Method 1: Startup Repair

a. Boot using Windows 8 Installation disk and perform startup repair.

b. Insert the disk into DVD drive and restart the computer.

c. Press F12 key (typically this is F12, but it can differ between computer manufacturers) and choose the drive that you inserted the installation media into.

d. Once the Windows Setup window appears click Next.

e. Click on Repair your computer.

f. Click on Troubleshoot and then select Advanced Options.

g. Click on Automatic repair.

h. Follow the on-screen instructions and finish the repair.

Method 2: Perform system restore and check.

Follow method 2 from the following link.

If the issue persists, you may check this:

Make sure that you are using the latest BIOS revision for your computer. Contact the computer manufacturer to inquire about how to obtain and install the latest BIOS update that is available for the computer.

Hope it helps. If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to let us know. We will be glad to help you further.

hi..thanks for the quick suggestions. I had tried that automatic repair feature but with no success. Later, as i did on the previous occasion, installed win8 with the help of another winXP hard drive. Now its working, but unable to rely on it because of the previous experiences where it went back to the disc read error state.
