How do I get Spider Solitaire to work in Windows 8

What do you mean when you say "Start screen icon for Spider Solitaire is still on the old desktop, but it doesn't do anything and it's not on the new start screen."?

There is not inbuilt version of Spider Solitaire available in Windows 8

You can download “Spider Solitaire” game from Microsoft Store.

Follow these steps to download the game:

a. Press “Windows key + Q” from the keyboard.

b. Then select “Store” option from the right panel.

c. Then type “Spider Solitaire” without quotes in the search box and hit enter.

d. You will get “Card Games Chest” option in your left panel.

e. Click on “Card Game Chest” to open it and then select “Install” option.

f. It will install “Solitaire and Spider Solitaire” game

We had no problem getting Spider Solitaire installed, but even though using more than 1 suit is mmentioned I cannot find away to get more than 1 suit in a game.  Is there something wrong or am I blind

Hi,

There are different version of Solitaire that you can download from Microsoft Store.

Follow below mentioned steps to bring back your old version of solitaire:

1. Go to the titles screen
2. Press Win key + C together to go to charms
3. Now press search and then type solitare
4. In the games list look for something that is called as "Microsoft Solitaire Collection" and then click on Install.
5. Once the installation is done enjoy the game.

I hope this helps you both to bring back your old solitaire, incase if it still doesnt work please let me know as we can try more troubleshooting steps to resolve this issue.

There are several versions of Spider Solitaire, that came with various versions and releases of Windows. My latest version I downloaded from the Windows 8 store.  In that version, when you see the first screen (perhaps after you click on "game"?) you have an option to play 4 different versions:

1. Scorpion, a different game with 4 suits.

2. Spider - Spicer solitaire with 4 suits.

3. Spider with 1 suit.

4. Spider with 2 suits.

I remember similar choices with earlier versions of Spider Solitaire.

I wish I had the version that came with Vista.  I liked it a lot better than the newer version I downloaded from the Windows 8 store.  But after I installed the new version, the old version no longer works, and the files are empty where they were once stored.

I often switch to my Spider Solitaire window while waiting for a browser window to load a new page.  Especially when using a laptop with a wireless connection at a motel, it often takes a minute or two for each new  screen to load.

I still do not see where you get a choice.

Tou cvan download and install the Games from Windows 7 in Windows 8. go to:  http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/33814-Microsoft-Games-for-Windows-8 This install and play like they did in Win 7. Enjoy.
