Error message VolPanlu.exe - application error. What is this and how do I get rid of it?

Frequently upon restarting or shutting down Windows 8 I get this error message.   What is it and how do I get rid of it?

Volpanlu.exe is a Windows file created by Creative Technology. The file is usually found in Program Files\creative\sound blaster x-fi\volume panel folder. If you find it anywhere else, Please note that volpanlu.exe could be a virus, trojan, worm, or spyware. The location of the file can vary in different Windows versions or languages. This is an executable file. You can find it running in Task Manager as the process volpanlu.exe. If you have any further information, please let us know and submit a comment using the form below.

 

Download and run Malwarebytes and see if anything quarantined

I have Norton Internet Security and it scans for malware constantly.

I would still run Malwarebytes anyway, a second opinion is always good.

This is caused by Sound Blaster program created when I installed my head phones and it's programs.  How I got rid of it was to un-installed that program from my computer.  The file causing this problem is:   C:\program files\Creative\.....

If you need that program with the head phones, Just plug in the head phones and let Microsoft finalize the operation without installing all the add in that comes in the installation CD.  The problem goes away!

I just disabled the VolPanlu.exe in the startup, and kept the rest of my apps.  I didn't use the app in the systray anyways.  Login as with admin rights, right click taskbar, select Task Manager, select Startup tab, scroll down to VolPanlu.exe, right click the app, select disable.
