WDF_VIOLATION

Helen91 asked on
This is becoming very frustrating, I simply want to sync my ipod classic, and every time I plug it into my computer I get this WDF_VIOLATION error message, the screen goes blue telling me that my computer ran into a problem and that it is going to restart after collecting some data.  So if I was working on anything at the time, it's lost. I have looked up some possible solutions, including enabling my ipod for disk use but windows 8 doesn't last long enough for me to change this option when the device is plugged in.  Help please?

Helen

Might be an Itunes prob if you're syncing with Itunes

Are you using Itunes 10.7 or 11 which has just been released?

I dont think earlier versions of Itunes were compatible with Win8

The new version of ITunes is not compatible, currently, with Windows 8. You must change the settings for ITunes.  Right click on the ITunes desktop icon > click properties > click compatibility tab > under "Compatibility mode" check the "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"  box.  Choose the version of Windows that worked previously for you in the past.  I tried it myself and it worked wonderfully.

Also  you may want to try this: make sure that everything that you are working with to download music has the right permissions and can be shared. Check your iPod, iTunes, and all your other music sharing software and iPods and make sure they have more than just "read only permissions". Do this by right clicking on all your different music sharing software like iTunes or whatever software you use to download music - go to properties > security tab > edit > under group or user names select the group or user you want to select and under "allow" select full control > apply > ok. Afterwards your music sharing software will allow you to enjoying syncing your iPod.  For your  music device or iPod follow these steps after connecting your device via USB to your computer: go to start menu > computer > locate your iPod > right click on it > properties > "sharing" tab > advanced sharing > select "share this folder" > click "permissions" > select "everyone" > under "allow" select full control > apply > ok. Now your software and devices have the proper permissions to share with each other, and your iPod has the proper permission to be shared as well, I really hope this will help.

It may help to look at the minidump files from the crashes with a debugger.

Can you zip up the minidump files in the C:\Windows\Minidump folder and make available (provide link) via Windows Live SkyDrive or similar site?

The following link has information on using Windows Live SkyDrive:

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itproui/thread/4fc10639-02db-4665-993a-08d865088d65

If you have problems zipping the minidump files copy the minidump files to another location such as a folder on the Desktop

Also, you do not necessarily have to zip up the minidump files, you can upload them one at a time.

Wow, that actually worked.  Thanks!  Except when I went to go sync my ipod I got the WDF_Violation screen again and my computer restarted.  I am now resesting my ipod to factory settings (bummer) and will have to sync my entire library.  But at least it's working now.

I just downloaded 10.7.0.21 3 days ago.  Apple doesn't provide a list of versions.  You just click the Download button and it presumably gives you the latest one for your OS.

I am using Itunes Version 11. Just updated yesterday. I cannot make it run long enough to let my ipod shuffle connect so I can choose to let it reset to factory default settings. Is there anything I can do different?

Windows 8 Just Blue Screened on me today with the WDF_VIOLATION error. I was trying to sync my iPod. I am running iTunes version 11.0.0.163. There are currently no updates available for iTunes. Looks like an issue for the developers of the software.
