No sound with SoundMax ad1984a after Windows 8 pro 64 bit install.

I have just installed Windows 8 on my HP laptop and can't get any sound.  It shows that the SoundMax driver is installed and working correctly, the volume is turned up, but there is nothing coming from the speakers.  It worked fine before the update to Win 8.

You've reached the right forum for your question. As I understand that you are not getting any sound from the computer.

Method 1
I would suggest you to run Audio Troubleshooter

a) Press the ‘Windows + W’ key on the keyboard.

b) Type troubleshooter in the search box and then press enter.

c) Click hardware and sound and click on ‘Playing Audio’.


Method 2
I would suggest you to try the steps from the following steps.

No sound in Windows

I have tried both methods and neither worked for me.  The troubleshooter found nothing wrong, as usual.

Same issue. Win 8 64 bit says audio is working, but I get no sound.

I just installed the Vista 64 bit drivers from http://www.techspot.com/drivers/driver/file/information/11938/

on my Asus A8V-X motherboard with the embedded SoundMax Audio and it seems to be working fine.

Same issue with HP Notebook 2230s. I've tried installing all the drivers I could find (Vista, Windows 7, Windows Update) with no success. With Windows 7 O.S. installed, the sound card worked perfectly.
The O.S. I'm using is Windows 8 Enterprise 64bit v 6.2 (9200) in spanish language.

I've tried to re-install the drivers from Vista and Windows 7 and there is still no sound.  I have also noticed that when I play video (specifically youtube) it is very chunky and slow.  Getting very frustrated from this problem.

Besides having no sound with my HP Notebook 2230s, I also I have the problem of slow and choppy videos, especially on YouTube.

I have same issue on a HP DC7800 machine.  Tried going to website soundmax.  I'll be watching this thread to see if or when it gets solved or supported.
