BAD_POOL_HEADER 0x19: causing BSOD on Windows 8

Subodh Adhikari asked on
I recently installed Windows 8 Pro on my laptop. For the most part everything works fine. I have no other problem with it except that when I wake it up from sleep, it restarts and I get a messaging telling me that it recently crashed. When I looked at the times for the dump files, it was created around the same time that I wake it up. The dmp files that were created are available at this link: http://sdrv.ms/WJoiyc.

The specs for my laptop are:

Processor: Intel Core i7-2720QM (2.20 GHz)
RAM: 4 GB
64-bit OS

It's actually an early 2011 MacBook Pro 15"

Hi,

Results verified by WinDBG, DumpCHK, and BlueScreenView.

The Bug_Check was 19 CAUSE MacHALDriver.sys MAC Hal Driver.

BugCheck 19, {20, fffffa8004e4f8d0, fffffa8004e4f990, c0c000d}
Probably caused by : MacHALDriver.sys ( MacHALDriver+1714 )
MODULE_NAME: MacHALDriver
IMAGE_NAME:  MacHALDriver.sys
FAILURE_BUCKET_ID:  0x19_20_MacHALDriver+1714
BUCKET_ID:  0x19_20_MacHALDriver+1714

Since it is on a Mac and the driver indicated is a Apple driver you will need to check
with Apple/Max and BootCamp Support to update the driver if possible. There may
be an issue with that driver and/or bootcamp and Windows 8.

MacHALDriver.sys dated 03/17/2011 MAC Hal Driver.

You may want to check with TechNet where you might find more using Windows 8
on a Mac.

Hope this helps.

I also ran a memory diagnostic and ran a disk check on my hdd. Both of those didn't show any problem.

Hi,

I just posted an analysis of your minidump however somehow I managed to use another
Dump File which I did not realize until after I posted. So I deleted that response and if
you get an email notice for it please ignore it. It shows a 9F issue with a Lenovo computer.

The correct Dump File will be analyzed in the next message.

Sorry for the mix-up.

Hi,

There was also a 10D Bug_Check in the Dump.zip which I could not originally open.
Re-downloading and expanding the zip allowed it to be analyzed.

The Bug_Check was 10D CAUSE IRFilter.sys Bootcamp IR Receiver Driver.

BugCheck 10D, {4, 0, fffff880055e997d, fffffa80046c7e40}
Probably caused by : IRFilter.sys ( IRFilter+197d )
MODULE_NAME: IRFilter
IMAGE_NAME:  IRFilter.sys
FAILURE_BUCKET_ID:  0x10D_4_IRFilter+197d
BUCKET_ID:  0x10D_4_IRFilter+197d

IRFilter.sys dated 7/2/2008  Bootcamp IR Receiver Driver.

So again check with Apple/Mac and Bootcamp support.

Hope this helps.

If you don't mind me asking, what did you do to fix this issue? I am having the same error.

FYI only, you are not alone. This is also affecting my early 2011 Macbook Pro 15". Same blue screen. Ironically, I have been running Windows 8 since the early release of RTM without issue. My machine started BSOD'ing around mid last week out of the blue.

I get BAD_POOL_ERROR as well as SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION BSOD's. Memory and HDD test return no faults.

Looks like we are in need of a BootCamp update.

Same problem over here. I've tried everything and there is no fix. Very very irritating, as Win8 worked fine for me from RTM until now. At this point, it is unusable.

I haven't been able to find any working solution to this. I reinstalled Windows 8 and didn't install any of the Apple drivers and that doesn't cause the BSOD problem. That in it self is a problem since most of the features of the laptop doesn't work.
