Answer

Hi,

did you try to install this KB manually ? If not can you try it ? - you can download from here (choose right language):

KB2539636

http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=27017

KB2533523

http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=27014

KB2468871

http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=3556

...x64 - is for 64bit WIndows 7

...x86 - is for 32bit WIndows 7

How to find out if Windows 7 is 32bit or 64bit is here:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/find-out-32-or-64-bit

EDIT 8/26/2011

Maybe what you can try (before you try points 1..11) only turn Off your antivirus and turn Off UAC, then manually install the updates  that failed to install and  run Windows update to install rest of updates. Turn On your antivirus and turn On UAC. How turn Off UAC see point 5).

EDIT 8/16/2011

If these steps above not help, try to use these ones:

1) uninstall Net Framework 4.0 client from „Uninstall and change program“:

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Uninstall-or-change-a-program

2) If you still see Net Framework 4.0 client in „Uninstall and change program“ use this tool for unistallation Net Framework 4.0 client:

    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2008/08/28/8904493.aspx

download, unpack and run „cleanup_tool.exe“ – from pull-down menu choose „.NET Framework 4“ and click „Cleanup Now

3) After uninstallation restart computer

4) Turn Off (Disable) your antivirus

5) Turn Off UAC (User Account Control) – howto do it:

     http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Turn-User-Account-Control-on-or-off

6) Download and install Net Framework 4.0 from here (choose right language):

     http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=17718

(same for 32bit OS and 64bit OS)

7) restart computer

8) try to install manually all updates (KB??????) that failed to install

9) run Windows update and install rest of updates

10) Turn On UAC (User Account Control) – howto do it:

        http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Turn-User-Account-Control-on-or-off

11) Turn On (Enable) your antivirus

I had the exact same problem with the very same updates, and this solution worked for me also, thanks very much.

This is the first time I've ever had issues with MS updates.

My problem looks simular. Installing OK but Windows Update remains showing as not installed. I have deinstalled these updated and updated again. Another try to download updates manually and run. Both efforts let not disappear the Windows Update message as not installed.

If manually it works fine, that the problem could be in the windows update service (client side). So try this Fix IT:

Thank you for reacting.

Unfortunately, running the Fix IT, did not solve my problem.
I have run FixIT in standard mode as well in agressive mode.

So if you know, that the updates were installed, you can hide these updates for WIndows Update and it stops show message as not installed.

Generally - on the updates, which you do not want to install, right click and from the menu choose "Hide update".

More about this:

part:

I keep getting offered an update from Windows that I don't want.

I think you mean the cause of the update problem ... so you can try this:

  1. Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.

Note On a Windows Vista-based (win 7) computer, click Start, type services.msc in the Start Search box, right-click services.msc, and then click Run as administrator.
  2. In the Services (Local) pane, right-click Automatic Updates, and then click Stop.
  3. Minimize the Services (local) window.
  4. Select all the contents of the Windows distribution folder, and then delete them.

Note By default, the Windows distribution folder is located in the drive:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder. In this location, is a placeholder for the drive where Windows is installed.
  5. Make sure that the Windows distribution folder is empty, and then maximize the Services (local) window.
  6. In the Services (Local) pane, right-click Automatic Updates, and then click Start.
  7. Restart the computer, and then run Windows Update again.

OK. Before I run a system recovery from July,17 and a WinUp. Problem not solved.

Next I renamed the distribution folder in the way you explained and run WinUp. Problem not solved. For the time being i have to conclude that there might be a bug in WinUp which coarse my problem. I will continue monotoring this topic.

Thank You for assisting.
