How do I solve my problem with Windows Update? (error code 80070570)

original title: How do I solve my problem with Windows Update?

Hello, I have been experiencing update problems with Windows for several months.  The large update fails every time.
I am running Windows 7 64-bit.  Firefox 3.6.15.  I do not use IE.
I received this error code when the update fails:
Windows 7 service pack 1 for x64 systems failed
code 80070570
This code searched via google pulled up a thread here that suggested a malware jack is preventing this update from succeeding.  I have over 1GB available, so I don't think I'm out of space for the update.
What do I need to fix this issue?

Access the KB971058 article via Internet Explorer (only) & run the Fix It 50202 in DEFAULT and AGGRESSIVE modes.

Although this page states that this KB article does not apply to Windows 7, it does.

A general fix, *IF* there's no malware issue, would be to reset the updating components: How do I reset Windows Update components?

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058>

The most effective way to employ the above Fixit is to download, *save* it, configure the system to Clean boot, then run Microsoft Fix it 50202.msi, and first choose the Default mode.

Restart.

See if the system can update now. If no joy, run it again with the system connected to the internet, in the Aggressive mode.

Restart.

See if the system can update now.

Then UNdo the Clean boot steps and see if it can search for updates in normal Windows mode.
