Windows 7 Media centre - Can I edit a Recorded TV Show____

Hi,
I want to edit / shorten a recorded TV show on my Windows 7 Media Centre.  ie, All I want to do is reduce the hour long program to just the article I'm interested in and save it for future reference.

Whilst I can open the WTV file under movie maker and edit it, I cannot save it back as a WTV file so consequently Media centre can no longer see it as a recorded TV show.

Is there any way or a plugin for Windows movie maker that will allow me to save the edited file back to a WTV file ?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Hey brispaul,

It appears that .wmv is the only file format in which the Windows Recorded TV Show files can be published in.

You should be able to watch the published movies in Windows 7 using the inbuilt media features.

There’s also a new feature in Windows 7 that allows you to easily concert the .wtv file to dvr-ms format.

Right click the .WTV file and select "Convert to DVR-MS" .

Save it in Microsoft Recorded TV Show

You can edit this DVR-MS file format in Windows Live Movie Maker.

Download the Movie Maker from:

Import the new DVR-MS into Windows Live Movie Maker, edit, and publish the movie in .wmv  which can be watched over Windows Media Player or Windows Media CenterHere are the file types supported by Windows Media Center.
