Hi,
Wondering if anyone has managed to get MYOB version 10 working on W7? MYOB tell me I have to buy the latest version for $375.00 & I reckon that's a scam. Even some of my oldest apps work OK on 7.
Thanks
Grant
Hello GrantCC,
Thank you for posting to the Microsoft Answers Forum.
If the program is not compatible, then you may try to install and run the program in compatibility mode.
Use the following steps:
1) Right click on the Program
2) Click on Properties
3) Click on Compatibility tab
4) Select Run this program in compatibility mode and select Windows Vista or whatever operating system the program was running successfully.
Refer to the link here: Make older programs run in this version of Windows
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Make-older-programs-run-in-this-version-of-Windows
If the compatibility is not successful, then try and runthe Program Compatibility troubleshooter:
1. Open the Program Compatibility troubleshooter by clicking theStart button.
Then click Control Panel. In the search box, type troubleshooter, and then clickTroubleshooting. Under Programs, clickRun programs made for previous versions of Windows.
2. Follow the instructions in the troubleshooter.
If you cannot install a program, insert the installation disc for the program and, using the troubleshooter, browse to the program's setup file, usually called Setup.exe, Install.exe, or something similar. The troubleshooter is not designed to work on programs that have an .msi file name extension.
If the compatibilty mode doesn't help, then you can try to see if Windows XP Mode will work.
If you run Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate versions , install Windows Virtual PC and Windows XP mode (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/default.aspx) and execute
your software in Windows XP.
If you run Windows 7 Home Premium, try VirtualBox (www.virtualbox.org) or VMware Player (www.vmware.com) and install a separate copy of Windows XP (either Home Edition or Professional) for that purpose. You can check on the internet and find programs free of charge that will work on Windows 7 Home Premium.
Hope this helps to get your older software working. If not, then your only option would be to buy the upgraded version for Windows 7.
Sincerely,
Thanks for your help Marilyn, and I eventually got Windows Virtual PC to download via Orbit. MYOB works OK under that, but I still can't get my HP Laserjet P2015dn to work, so that's not much help.
I posted this on another thread anyway, but I did get the printer to work under the VMware reader, but then if I connect to the internet under that, it somehow hijacks the connection so that when I use the normal W7 mode I need to reboot my computer twice to get the connection back!
I must say that having to buy applications and hardware to use W7, when all other Windows versions from 3.1, I have had managed to be backward compatible, is not very satisfactory at all.
Regards
Grant
Hello GrantCC,
Sometimes older programs, even Microsoft software will not work on the newest operating systems. Windows 7 has a change in the way the operating system starts and therefore, you may have to upgrade to a newer version to get your program working.
From reading your post, it seems that you have been able to get MYOB working in Windows XP Mode.
Have you downloaded the latest driver for your HP Laserjet P2015dn for Windows 7? If not, go to the HP website and see if they have included updated drivers for your printer.
Click here. If there is not a current driver, you will need to contact HP as they are the ones providing the driver for their product to be compatible with Windows 7. Be sure you know whether your system is 32-bit or 64-bit.
Please reply back when you have an update.
Thanks,
Hi Marilyn,
The HP works OK under W7, but not in XP mode. The only 'printer' to show up is the fax, but that doesn't activate either.
Thanks
Grant
