Error: "../iTunes64setup.exe is not a valid Win32 application"

I just got a brand new out of the box Toshiba Satellite A505 with Windows 7 64bit OS Version 6.1 (Build 7600), 4GB memory.  I'm trying to install iTunes.  i downloaded the 64bit version directly from the Apple website.  When I try to run it I get the message "../iTunes64setup.exe is not a valid Win32 application".

I also tried to install and run the 32bit version - that one give me the error message "This iTunes installer is intended for 32-bit version of Windows. Please download and install the 64-bit iTunes installer instead".

Based on other responses I read in other forums, I deleted the 64 bit installer and re-downloaded, twice - each time from a different internet connection, each of which was high speed.  I am running AVG anti-virus, which is up to date as of today.

PLEASE don't tell me to run checkdisk - that's like saying "take 2 aspirin and call me in the morning".  I've had NOTHING BUT TROUBLE installing software onto this thing thanks to the crazy new permission structure in Windows 7.  I finally disabled User Accounts completely, and have been able to install everything I need up until now.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks,

Answer

All - just found the problem.  I downloaded the install file via Chrome, which is my default browser.  I read a post in another forum where the user had a problem with a firefox download, switched to IE and it worked fine, so I tried that.  Voila - up and running!

Thanks all for the help.
