What do you mean by Uninstall 'Old Microsoft Corporation Programs'?
Please see the following:
how to speed up your Windows 7 system:
http://techingiteasy.wordpress.com/2010/01/11/speed-up-your-system-for-the-new-year/
Also:
Open up Programs and Features in Control Panel. Look down the list.
Anything Microsoft has to be there and will have been installed either by you or as part of an installation of something else which required the software. If you remove any of it, you will lose features and maybe entire programs.
The same applies to Java and Adobe Flash. What you can remove is anything that you have installed but no longer use, trial versions of office suites, games etc.
None of the above will make it faster, however, unless you are really short on hard drive free space.
For best hard drive performance, you need at least 25% free, so check if you have that or more on your C drive. Double cliccking 'Computer' will show you this. If your C drive has less than 25% free space, you will need to move stuff out to another partition if you have one (NOT the recovery partition), or to an external hard drive or to CD/DVD
OR increase the partition size of C by using a 3rd party partition manager.
Startup items can be pests when the computer is first booted. Messenger programs default install to start when Windows starts. Sign in to them, go to options or preferences and uncheck any box related to 'automatically start when Windows starts'.
You can do this with other programs too. Where there is no provision in a program, use WinPatrol's features to diasable auto starting of stuff like printer utilities and other assorted junk. You may lose some features along the way though. If you want the features back, you go into WinPatrol and re-enable them.
WinPatrol also warns of nasties getting in through the backdoor.. You can get it here.. http://www.winpatrol.com/
Re gadgets, uninstall or close down any which update in real time, especially clocks, network, and CPU meters. Windows shows a clock already, and the other two just sap performance. In the case of the CPU gadgets, some of the activity shown includes the gadget. Totally useless..
The best way to improve performance is to upgrade hardware.
The worst way to improve performance is to run junk like System Mechanics or any utility which includes a registry cleaner and which claims to double your speed and one click fix anything. Uninstall anything like this at your earliest convenience..
Andre's link has good stuff re Disk Cleanup etc, so I will not repeat what he has already given you..
