Windows 7 installation error code: 0x80070017

Currently running Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit.
Trying to upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

Each time I try to install, setup fails close to the end of "Copying Windows Files" stage.

Error code comes up: "Windows cannot copy files required for installation. The files may be corrupt or missing. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation."

As above, the error code = 0x80070017.

Any help would be greatly appreciated; I lack computer knowledge to know exactly what is going on.

Thanks in advance.

Try the following steps to fix the issue:

If you have Operating System ISO File, Please try these steps:

Step1: Create Bootable USB Drive:
  1. Start PowerISO (v4.8 or newer version, download here).
  2. Insert the USB drive you intend to boot from.
  3. Choose the menu "Tools > Create Bootable USB Drive". ...
  4. In "Create Bootable USB Drive" dialog, click "..." button to open the iso file of Windows 7 or Windows 8 or Windows 10 TP

Step2: Boot with USB Drive and Install the OS

Thanks

Abdul

I would also suggest using a different DVD drive, or maybe copying the installation files to a USB stick (4gb or bigger) and performing a USB install.

The error 0x80070017 translates to "CRC Error" which means that the files that are being copied from the disk are not making it to the hard drive with the same structure, meaning that the "original" files on the disk are being modified/changed/corrupted while being copied to the "destination" location on your hard drive during the install.

This usually means either a bad DVD, or a read error on the DVD drive.

The easiest thing is to make a USB drive to install Window s7 (and it's WAY faster than DVD too!)

I hope this helps.
