Ultimate steal- win 7 premium ok for win 7 starter?

Hi,

I am a grad student and I have a netbook that comes with Windows 7 starter.  There's a deal for windows 7 professional upgrade on Microsoft Ultimate steal website.  I am wondering if that would allow me to upgrade my starter version directly to professional version or I have to upgrade to Home premium first? Thank you.

Scott, MA

You may go directly to Professional, pass Go and collect $200.

Just make sure you have the hardware requirements:

Make sure and use the Windows Anytime Upgrade feature...it is a lot easier and takes less time.

Scott, can you confirm that the 7 Pro upgrade (from the Ultimate Steal) worked for you? I am in your identical situation, and I want to make sure. Thanks.

The ultimate steal will work fine. Just use the product key as a windows anytime upgrade. Take note however that you cannot change bit sizes during this upgrade.

Yep. It worked perfectly for me.

I have to say, I am a long time Apple user (and I still will be), but what Microsoft is doing for students really impresses me. It has fundamentally changed my opinion of them for the better.
