The normal proceedure is to install XP first and then Windows 7.
However there is a workaround if you read these articles.
Note: The partition you created should be a "Primary" partition for XP.
You may also find it easier if you boot to Windows 7 and delete that partition you created for XP and let XP create it during the install.
