Can I install windows 7 without formatting my other partitions?

My computer has two partitions, C: and D:. In partition D: I have my important files and I'm going to install Windows 7 Ultimate into C: partition. I can't format partition D:, but I can C:. I need to know can I install Windows 7 into C: without formatting D:? (How can I do that?)

Boot from the Windows 7 DVD

Click Install Now

Accept License Agreement

When the option is displayed to select an installation type, click (Custom Advanced)

Select the partition, C:\ should be listed as Disk 0

Click Drive Options

Click Format and click Next to proceed with the installation

I suggest you backup any files that are really important just in case.

Files cannot be that important if you have no backups
