Windows 7 Service Pack 1 failed to install. Error: File not found (0x8007002)

I tried to install Windows 7 Service Pack 1 on my Acer netbook but it failed with error : File not found (0x8007002). I looked up the Microsoft support website and followed the instructions: Installing the System Update Readiness tool, and turned off my virus and spyware protection. But still didn't work. The last suggestion was to re-install Windows 7, but it came with the machine and I didn't have the original discs. I don't think the recovery discs I created will do any good because it would contain only the files that comes with the machine.

Can someone please help?

Answer

Hi Siu Lun,

Do you have access to Windows Recovery media? Do you have a recent backup of your data? The best option would be to reinstall Windows.
