Back up image not recognized, can I re-install from the vhd?
I recently tried to restore my computer from an image file, but the restore interface didn't find it. I can navigate to it through the find drivers button, and I have tried several times to search a solution to no avail. I have navigated through the
WindowsImageBackup folders and found the .vhd file, which I know is just a virtual hard drive used in virtual machines, so I mounted it and can browse the files from it.
My question is, how do I create an image or restore from the files in the vhd? This was an OEM copy of windows on a machine my buddy built for me and he's since misplaced the disc. I can restore from newer images, but not the original "fresh install" image,
and that's where I'd like to go back to.
First "copy" your WindowsImageBackup folder and MediaID.bin file to a subfolder (this will be your backup copy), leaving the original folder and file in the root of the backup drive. The use the trai version of Acronis True Image Home to convert the .VHD
file to an Acronis .tib file. Then you should be able to use the converted WindowsImageBackup to restore Windows using Acronis. Read the User's guide (Section 8.10.2) for the complete details on how to convert a Windows 7 Image Backup for use by Acronis.
