Hmmmm it is already is windows 7 but this way let's me keep my files and settings. Will it know it's already windows 7? Let's see, well it does not. Nice Hmmmmm now because Microsoft Anna come's installed in windows 7 this should reinstall it right.
YES Now Microsoft Anna text to speech works once again. YA! Why could microsoft just not say, to just put the install disc that came with the PC back into drive and run it as an update. Hmmmmm to easy maybe?
HiSfduke,
- What exactly happens when you try to use Text to Speech?
- Do you receive any error message?
In Windows 7 Text to speech is called as Narrator. I would suggest you todetermine if the sound card is working on your computer. Follow the steps below to check your sound card.
You must be logged on as an administrator to perform these steps.
1. Open Device Manager by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Security, and then, under System, clicking Device Manager. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
2. Double-click Sound, video and game controllers, and then do one of the following:
- If the sound card has a yellow question mark next to it, the sound card might not be working. Try reinstalling the sound card driver.
For more information, seeUpdate a driver for hardware that isn't working properly.
- If the sound card appears twice in the list, you might have a ghost device. If so, delete the entry with the question mark.

I know the Narrator voice is Anna in Text to Speech, yes I have done a reinstall an a update to Realtek High Definition Sound Audio driver ver.6.0.1.6132 the only driver in the Device Manager & yes I am the Admin. It worked fine for a few week's and then stoped working. I still have sound but not text to Speech with Microsoft Anna Narrator. I am not the only one out here that is going thou the same thing with the Narrator that was working and then stop's working. This is a new PC I-7 930 with 6GB memory. I dont think, it's the PC but the Windows 7 it's self.
How can I just reinstall the Text to speech Narrator to fix this. Why has Microsoft not come up with a fix for this already. Here is a link with more info on this. >http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7music/thread/6b4153df-0ffb-4977-b26c-a313b418db96
And here is a link of some of the other's with the same thing.> http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7music/thread/d527b402-3a5f-4817-9d4e-3b70ba938056
Can anyone plz give a step by step way to fix this with out having to do a full reload of the PC, to only run in to the same thing again?
Help Plz! Can you tell me how to just reinstall the Text to Speech software.
Hi Sfduke,

I would suggest you to run System File Checker (SFC) scan and check if it can help you fix the issue of Text to Speech issue.
To run SFC Scan, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, and then type cmd in the Start Search box.
2. Right-click cmd in the Programs list, and then click Run as administrator.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password or click Continue
3. At the command prompt, the following line, and then press ENTER: sfc /scannow

Srinivas R,
This is the massage I get when I try to hear Microsoft Anna > (This Voice cannot be played. Please try another voice or selecting a different audio output device.)
Can you just E-mail me the reinstall of just text to speech software. Anna is the only voice I have with this new pc. And from the links I have given you above you can see. This looks to me as a bug that let's other program's re-program micosoft Anna. Or something like that. Anyway I have reinstalled my realtek sound software a few times now with out any luck. Everything works fine but the Micosoft Anna Voice.
I don't want to lose everything I have installed. Just to try to go back to a date before this happen. I also don't want to do all that just to run into the same thing again.
HELP! PLZ!
Hi Sfduke,
I would suggest you to check if the Realtek sound card is selected as default device on your computer and try to set it as default and check if it helps you fix the issue.
To set the default device, follow these steps:
1. Open Control Panel, then select Sound.
2. When the Sound dialog appears click the Playback tab.
3. If the Realtek sound device is not listed, Right click on the blank space and click on show disabled device and disconnected device.
4. If the Realtek sound device is listed, right click on it and click on default playback device.
Check if the above steps helps you fix the issue.
Hope this helps. Let us know the status.

Ok I am just getting mad now. Yes my realtek is the default playback device. What part of the above did you not understand?
This is a bug with Micosoft Anna text to speech program that let's other programs re-program it in the registry as in this link
>http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7music/thread/6b4153df-0ffb-4977-b26c-a313b418db96
So now it does not work anymore. Why is it so hard to just reinstall the microsoft Anna text to speech program?
Why can't Microsoft just put out a fix or let you download the program to be able to re-install it to fix it?
I think we would also need a un-install tool for it too.
Would that be so hard to do?
Sorry but this is making me want to go back to XP. Windows 7 has been anything but user friendly.

I have a relatively new notebook with Windows 7. I was playing around with Microsoft Narrator which was working ok, aside from occasionally not saying anything when Insert + F8 was pressed, but that's a different issue. However, now the lovely Anna isn't saying anything. The Narrator program was open and narrating appropriately but all of a sudden it went silent.
I have checked all the program's options and checked all the options with the soundcard (Realtek) but it has remained silent. The thing is I didn't change anything at the time it went silent and all the other sound generating programs work fine.
What could it be please?
I have the same problem on my new Windows 7,64 bit system. Sound and System File Checker are all fine. The only problem is the Narrator function. Furthermore, I can't get any other TTS apps to run on my computer.
