Question

Windows Logo + L: Skip "switch user" screen and go straight to choice of users?

I want to be able to use the Windows Logo key and L to go straight to the screen showing all users, avoiding the intervening screen where I must click "Switch Users" to get to the all users screen.  And we don't want to log off to do this.  Any solution?

Answer

Hi N.F.Jackson,

Windows logo + L key is always used to lock the current user and cannot be used to switch to different user accounts.

As this is a by-design issue, there would be nothing much we can do from our end.

If you want to suggest change in the design here is the link you can refer to:  Microsoft Connect - Product Feedback and Bug Reporting | Microsoft...

Hi N.F. Jackson – Welcome to Microsoft Answers Community.

I recommend that you download my Switch user software
tool, and save it on your disk, make a shortcut of it on your
desktop, right-click it and choose properties, navigate to the
Shortcut tab and there inside the shortcut key textbox type
any free keyboard character, I recommend S since then you
get the following combo of keys, CTRL+ALT+S this is then
required to press in order to trigger a User account switch.

The problem is, Windows + L is not really a very fast way to swtich users. You first get this locked screen to renter your password... why would you want to do that, to get back into the account you just switched from... with a switch button underneath. So from keyboard Win +L, you now have to move your mouse to press the User Switch button, then move it again to select the account you want to switch to if you can quickly find its name against a busy background. Not very fast at all.

My daughter has an issue with the Windows Logo Key + L to lock her computer.  She has done this and now she cannot get into her computer at all.  It just shows a blue screen with Windows 7 at the bottom.  After rebooting her computer it does not show anything, but goes straight to this window.  What or how can she unlock her computer to get her desktop back?

Hey JD2012,

Have you tried pressing the Windows Logo Key + L again?

If that does not work, create a new thread in the link provided below and give as many details on your situation (Operating system, system you are using, any errors displayed etc…) that you can. This will better help the community to help you.
