I got a really nasty Trojan on my laptop called Win 7 Antispyware 2012. It ran a bunch of bogus, pop-up security warnings stating my computer was infected and trying to get me to purchase a scanner. It went right through McAfee! Besides the warnings, it blocked all Internet connections I attempted using three different browsers.
I did some research using my wife’s computer and came up with a free malware scanner called Malwarebytes (www.malwarebytes.org). I loaded it on a CD and copied the executable to the desktop on my laptop. When I double-clicked the icon on the desktop the application would not run. However, when I right clicked and then clicked “run as administrator” it installed the Malwarebytes software. I then scanned my laptop with the software and it detected and cleaned, with the push of a button, three infected files, an infection in memory, and two infected registries. My computer is not functioning normally. It was one of the easier malware cleanups I’ve experienced.

This worked for me: I changed the date of my computer (7 days ahead). I shut it down. I booted it. I kept getting the popups, but finally it let me run my antivirus program, Security Essentials. During the full scan, there were a bunch of popups, which I kept Xing out. About halfway through the scan the popups ended. The scan finished and said I had one problem, which required action. The problem was JAVA/CVE-2011-3544.B. I didn't know what that was or if it was related to the Win 7 Internet Security 2012. I told Security Essentials to remove this. It did. With great trepidation I restarted my computer. Voila - no more popups. Apparently the Win 7 Internet Security 2012 was gone. I waited until after midnight before turning the clock back 7 days on my computer. I can only assume any good, up-to-date antivirus program, once you are allowed to access, would likewise remove this. Now, I've also heard that creating another administer account, then logging in under that, would allow you to do access your antivirus in the same manner. However I did not confirm that.
Calling Microsoft's security help line - 866-727-2338 - was useless. They gave me no answers, did point me to MS forums for possible help, and wanted to charge me $99 to give me "elite" service. This puts Microsoft in the same vat as the other would-be "virus helpers," in my opinion - they're trying to turn a buck off my misfortune. Be a cold day before I'd ever consent to that, and I was disappointed that Microsoft, a company I've been loyal to and stood up for, has sunk to this level.
Before applying the fix, I was unable to: connect to the internet, start my antivirus program, start CCleaner, restore my system to a previous time. I also tried all these during Safe Mode and they didn't work then either. Whoever wrote this virus knew something about what they were doing, but if I could find them I'd beat the **** out of them before complimenting them in this way. OK, that's my experience. I don't know if this will be posted or be deleted because of my words about Microsoft, but those are my true feelings - they didn't help me when I really needed it.
People behind this nasty Win 7 Antispyware 2012 caught us all with surprise and expert at this level. To make matter worse, I have never seen anything like this before. I could not do anything with infected computer. All the McAffe, Microsoft, Norton, and others failed to detect problem. Their instruction and technical support only created more confusion but no resolution.
Research told me that these viruses are widespread during the past few months and only getting smarter. Since my new laptop is less than one week old, BestBuy told me to contact Microsoft and computer vendor. Response from these companies are pratical useless unless you are paying them extra fee $100 or more to remove it. Nightmares before Christmas.
This is enterprise criminal on U.S. soil, I am going to report to FBI after this incident with all the documentation. If someone planted unapproved "kit", we want to make sure they will be prosecute to full extent of the laws.
These companies and their lawyers would rather spending our money on "piracy" from China and other countries. When it comes to its biggest loyal customers, they taking advantages on our misfortunes.
Solution: Boot up from DVD, reformat and re-install everything from scratch.
Another problem: I cannot re-install from the harddrive because infected computer and there was no DVD. I end up to borrow copy and used my license come with it. I lost 10 hours so far to get everything back to normal.
