Question

Cannot save to Prog. Files even though Admin.

Hey everyone,

I am trying to download an executable stand-alone program called 'BurnCDCC' by Terabyte Unlimited and want to save it to my Program Files however when I navigate to the directory and say save, it says contact administrator. I am administrator though, so I dont know whats wrong. Ive tried Group policy and it doesn't work. I am also a member of all groups but guests IIS_IUSERS and Users. Any tips would be appreciated.
Thanks
Shane

Answer
That program may not be compatible with Windows 7. It was released in 2006. The last version of Windows mentioned in the readme file is XP and Server 2003.

The Program Files folder is protected to stop unwanted programs from creating files there. BurnCDCC is a stand alone program that doesn't need to be installed. Copy the file to somewhere in your profile like Documents or Downloads. Right click on the file and pick "Run as administrator".

Thanks for that.
I know its stand alone, but I just want to put it in my Program files folder and put shortcuts to it in my start menu-I know how to do that all.
I shall try that and if it works, I shall mark your response.
Thankyou very much
Shane Thompson.

PS.
I would just like to inform you I have actually used it without having to use compatibility mode no probs.
Thanks for that, It worked a treat. I cant believe it was so easy, and that I didn't figure it out myself.
I am , myself, a high-end user, but I am just warming up to 7 now. I do not have much experience with Vista and came straight from XP, so I have a lost of lost turf to catch up on.
Again, many thanks

Shane Thompson.

You're welcome. You can create folders in Program Files then copy files there. It involves changing the default MTFS permissions settings. In a public forum like this there are many beginner users who may end up sigificantly altering the security of their computer by doing this. It's easier and safer just to store the program in your profile. If you have other users who need to use the program you can store it in the Public profile.
