Windows Media Center-unable to playback a recorded TV program

Video error in media center

I can no longer playback a recorded TV program in media center. The error message is" Video Error...files needed to display video are not installed or are not working correctly. Restart windows media center or restart the computer". I have uninstalled and reinstalled both media center and media player through the add/remove programs and nothing worked. This function did work when I first installed windows 7.

Answer

Hi,

Method 1:

I would suggest you to try the following steps and see if it helps.

1.       Click Start,

2.       Type “run” in the Start Search box, and then

3.       Click Run in the Programs list.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.

4.       In the Open box, type %systemdrive%\programdata\microsoft\ehome

5.       Click OK.

6.       In the details pane, right-click “mediacenterdatastore.db”, and then

7.       Click Delete.

8.       Click yes to confirm that you want to move the "Mediacenterdatastore.db" file to the Recycle Bin.

9.       Start Windows Media Center

Doing this will rebuild the mediacenterdadastore.db file for Windows Media Center.

Method 2:

If this doesn’t help, then try these steps:

1. Open Control Panel/Programs and Features.

2. Click "Turn Windows features on or off" in the left pane.

3. Expand "Media Features", uncheck "Windows Media Center". Click "Yes" to continue, and click OK to quit. Then Restart.

4. Open "Turn Windows features on or off" again. Turn on the features and check "Windows Media Center", restart and check if it helps.

5. Launch Windows Media center, initialize the program.
