Moving the System Reserved partition to a different drive.

I have 4 hard drives on my Windows 7 System.  Drives 1 & 2 are set in a RAID 1 configuration (labeled Disk 0 Drive C:).  Disk 3 (labeled Disk 1 Drive F:) is were the 100MB System Reserved Partition resides.  This disk is experiencing SMART errors.  How do I move the System Reserved partition to a healthy drive?

Hi,

Thank you for posting your question in Microsoft community

From the issue description, I understand that you want to move system reserved partition to different drive. I will be glad to assist you on this issue.

1. What is the exact and complete error message you get?
2. What is the drive letter of that unformatted partition?

Let us try the following steps.

If the 100MB unformatted partition on Drive"1" is before C: Drive, follow the below mentioned steps.
a. Create a repair disc.
Create a system repair disc :

b. Create a new simple partition.

c. Assign a drive letter (ex: "Z").

d. Copy one folder and two files from the current system reserved partition (Drive "0")

Boot

bootmgr

BOOTSECT.BAK

e. Remove the drive letter from the old "System Reserved" partition (Drive "0")

f. Mark the new "System Reserved" boot partition as "Active".

g. Restart the computer and check if its boot to the desktop.

h. If the computer doesn't boot, then using the Repair disk perform the startup repair.
Startup Repair: frequently asked questions:

i. If able to boot to the desktop successfully, delete the old "System Reserved" partition (Drive "0")

After you try the above steps suggested, reply us with the results.

Hi

you wrote: "If the 100MB unformatted partition on Drive"1" is before C: Drive, follow the below mentioned steps."

What is then, if that 100MB is not before C (where Windows has been installed)?

In my case it looks as follow:

- first drive on the left hand side (D): for data (BTW this is the activ and system partition, too)

- second from the left hand side (C): windwos7 installed (startpartition)

- third (las) from the left hand side: I have just separeted from C for System reserved.

Does it matter if the System reserved is the last one? (behind C)

Do I need to rearrange the partitions? If yes, how can I do that? Is there a built in fuction within W7?

I wanted to make a System backup but as drive D (830 GB) is the System Partition, as well, I would need a very large storage. Otherwise, 120GB storage would be enough for the backup of win7 together with the installed Softwares.

Thank you for your reply in advance.

Jozsef
