iTunes runs into issues connecting to the store periodically, which are usually the result of one of two things: the version of iTunes or your network connection. I typically recommend making sure iTunes is on the latest version before downloading anything from the store, because Apple seems to have incompatibility issues when you try to make purchases using an older version of the store.
