Cannot access homegroup shared libraries

I have 3 computers running Windows 7 Home Premium. 2 64 bit computers on a wired network and 1 32 bit laptop on wireless.

I set up a homegroup from the laptop and then joined it from the 2 64 bit machines. Everything works perfectly between the other 64 bit machine and the laptop but this machine doesn't see the contents of the shared libraries on the other two machine. It sees the machines, it sees the libraries but won't open them. I get no errors and I really don't know where to look.

Thanks Shinmila, none of the suggestions worked so I ended up reloading Windows 7 and it now works fine. Go figure!

Hi Denis,

First and foremost thing you can try is run homegroup troubleshooter and see what it has to say about this.

Step 1: Run Homegroup Troubleshooter.

Here’s the link you can refer.

Open the HomeGroup troubleshooter
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Open-the-HomeGroup-troubleshooter

Step 2:

Sharing could be blocked by security software such as Firewall.
Now turn off all the security software and try accessing those contents.
More often than not, this should solve the issue. If it does, changing certain configuration settings within the firewall is required. For Windows 7, refer:

Understanding Windows Firewall settings
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Understanding-Windows-Firewall-settings

Step 3:

Make sure that network location is not set to Public as HomeGroup is not available on public networks. Change it to Home Network.

Choosing a network location

For answers to some common questions about HomeGroup, see:

HomeGroup: frequently asked questions
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/HomeGroup-frequently-asked-questions

Step 4: Configure this setting

Click the file or folder you want to configure, and then do one of the following:
To share the file or folder with nobody, click Share within the toolbar, and then click Nobody.
To share the file or folder with specific people, click Share within the toolbar, click Specific people, select each person with whom you want to share with the file or folder, and then click Add. Click Share to close the File Sharing dialog box. Sharing with specific people only works if they’ve linked their profiles to an online ID.
To share the file or folder with the entire homegroup, click Share within the toolbar, and then click either HomeGroup (Read) or HomeGroup (Read/Write).

Step 5: Try taking ownership of the Library folders.

Refer this article for details.
