why cant i watch a dvd on my laptop

i have windows media center installed on my computer it plays music cds just fine and i have been able to watch dvds in the past on my laptop but most times it says i dont have a disk in when i do i need to fix this please help me

·         Is the issue confined only with Windows Media Center?
·         Does the DVD getting recognized by the computer?
 
Follow the methods listed below:
 
Method 1: Run the “Fix-t” from the following article.
 
Your CD drive or DVD drive is missing or is not recognized by Windows or other programs
 
Method 2: If the above method does not help then you may run the “Fix it” from the following link.
 
Your CD or DVD drive can't read or write media
