USB power Surge

I got an error message stating USB power surge/failure.

Since then, all 3 usbs on my laptop are no longer working. if i plug an optic mouse into it the optic light doesnt even come on making me think its a power issue.

In device manager though, all usbs are showing as operational (although when you select one and go to the power tab, it shows 0 under power available.

I'm worried i have fried my motherboard but everything else is working fine.

any suggestions ?

Hi,

What you can do is reset the usb hub. This will probably fix your issue and if it doesn't it is also going to be helpful in pointing toward USB being damaged by the power surge.

First try these steps of resetting USB hub and let us know the result. Here are the steps:

USB controllers require that an IRQ be assigned. The IRQ line is assigned in the computer's BIOS, and usually IRQ 9 is assigned.

Remove and reinstall all USB controllers

To remove and reinstall all USB controllers, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, click Run, type sysdm.cpl in the Open box, and then click OK.
  1. Click the Hardware tab.
  1. Click the Device Manager button.
  1. Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
  1. Right-click every device under the Universal Serial Bus controllers node, and then click Uninstall to remove them one at a time.
  2. Restart the computer, and then reinstall the USB controllers.
  1. Plug in the removable USB storage device, and then test to make sure that the issue is resolved.
