Unable to Connect HP LaserJet 1022 to Windows 7

I recently bought a new computer with Windows 7 - 64 bit,  butit does not recognise my HP LaserJet 1022.  I have spent hours online with HP helpline; also with PC World where I bought the computer.  I have attempted to download all the recommended fixes to install the relevant driver but they don't work.  I can get only so far but the installation does not complete.  The installation sticks at the point where it asks me to connect the device and refuses to go any further.  I have tried disconnecting printer and turning off power - I have tried to download with printer connected.  Nothing works!! . Does anyone know how to get my printer working

I have exactly the same problem, as do, apparently, three of 4 others on the HP forum.

The USB cable and printer is fully functional on my XP system, and in the Win 64 system  the device comes up as an" unspecified" device   but is still seen correctly as an HP 1022 printer.

Driver installation seized up with a request for me to plug in the USB and connect the device.  Obviously it is already connected as I am directed to a download of a driver after plugging in the device earlier.

 I would suggest you to try the steps mentioned below and check if it helps.

 

Method 1:  Try running the printer troubleshooter.

 

  a.     Open The Printer Troubleshooter

Method 2:  Uninstall and Reinstall the printer.
