Question

Mouse not working after upgrading to Windows 7.

I recently installed Windows 7. Everything is fine except my mouse will not work. I have tried several types: serial, USB, Wireless and PS/2. I even bought a Microsoft Mouse but whilst the keyboard is fine the mouse still does not want to play.

Hi Jollydiver,

Thanks for posting. You will need to contact HP to see if there is an available chipset driver for Windows 7.

Hope this helps!

Is this 32 or 64 bit?

Its possible you need to upgrade Chipset drivers.

Some of my devices and applications are not working, what should I do?

A: If your internet connection is working in Windows 7, I suggest you try obtaining the drivers through Windows Update. Click Start > All Programs > Windows Update > Turn on Windows Update. A list of available updates will then be downloaded, you will have the option to view them, do so and check off the appropriate drivers or software patches you need and click Install. You can also check the manufacturer’s website for patches, updated drivers or to simply find out about Windows 7 support for the particular product.

Hi Andre,

Thanks for the reply. It is the 32 bit version. Are the chipset drivers downloaded from the motherboard manufacturer?

Regards
John

I have a problem; after having reasonably successfully upgraded to Windows 7 my mouse will not work. I have tried USB, PS/2 and wireless mice. I now have a Microsoft Wireless Comfort Desktop 5000 mouse and keyboard. Keyboard is fine but not my mouse. My computer is HP Pavillion with Intel Pentium D CPU 2.8GHz processor and 4Gb RAM. BIOS is Pheonix Technologies and was updated in October 2007. Device manager shows no conflicts and when I plug the mouse in I see the drivers successfully loading. I even tried reloading Windows 7 but still no joy. All drivers are up to date. Please help as navigating around my PC using just a keyboard is painfully slow and very frustrating. Please help regards John

I'm experiencing a similar problem:

Dell Latitude D820, Broadcom 350 Bluetooth adaptor
After update to Win7, able to connect but found MSFT Mouse (Wireless Intellimouse Explorer for Bluetooth) not actually working
- Installed / re-installed Dell Broadcom 350 Vista x64 driver; not resolved
- Installed MSFT Intellipoint 7; not resolved

Any suggestions?

I've got a similar problem on multiple machines.  The first time was with a brand new Microsoft Wireless 3000 mouse on a brand new Sony Vaio Laptop with Windows 7 OEM install.  Plug in the receiver and device driver install fails.  Pull it off and use it on my XP machine - works fine.

Go borrow a brand new Microsoft 4000 wireless mouse - same problem on the Vaio.  Several hours on the phone with Microsoft - they tell me it is a Sony problem.  By the way, I have nothing but good things to say about Microsoft Mouse tech support.  I had to go to work and they called me back.  I missed the first call and they called back twice!  When they logged into my machine - their mouse would not work either!

Then I upgraded another desktop with a fresh install of Windows 7.  Tried the mouse there, no joy.  Tried the 4000 - it did not work either.  Back on the phone with tech support - they want it to be a USB hardware problem.  Not enough voltage.  I want it to be a Windows 7 problem - won't work on the Vaio or the self install.

Both mice work on XP machines.

I am having the same problem.  I upgraded to windows 7 and now the keyboard and mouse do not work.  I even went to microsoft and installed the software for this product for windows 7 and it still does now work.  It is not even recognizing the receiver.

I see this page says it has been "answered" but I disagree. I am also having this same problem with a custom build. everything worked after initial boot, long enough for me to set up everything. But no mouse after 1st re-boot. Mouse works fine on other computers (XP and 7). My build ran for 6 months with XP without a single issue. Fresh install of 7 64-bit with chipset and other Win 7 64-bit compatible drivers installed and this pops up. Anyone have an actual fix?

Just to test the "answer" here, I installed first the upgraded chipset driver from Gigabyte (mobo manufacturer). After that did nothing to resolve the issue, I then installed the latest and greatest Win 7 chipset driver direct from Intel. It also failed to fix the issue. I can use my mouse but only if it plugged directly into a mobo USB 2.0 port. Plug it in to a powered hub or the keyboard or even on a short extension cable and NO MOUSE for me. I have found numerous complaints about this bug all over the web but never a fix. Most people claim it must be a virus or driver issue, but I am certain it is a Win 7 bug.

Yes,

I have exactly the same problem. It's certainly a Win 7 bug. Why don't they acknowledge and fix it?
