HTC Desire X. Windows 7 driver

I have recently bought an  HTC Desire X. When I plug in the USB is just appears as an android phone.   Windows 7 cannot find a driver for it.   I have tried adding it to my devices just using bluetooth but it does not register it.   I cannot delete the android from my devices and start again.   Any suggestions?

Hi,

Welcome to Microsoft communities.

From your description, I understand that Windows 7 is not able to find a driver for HTC Desire X.

1.       Did you try a different USB port?

2.       What is the error message when you try to add the Bluetooth?

3.       What is the error message when you try to delete the driver?

4.       Did you try in a different computer to check if it’s an issue with your computer alone?

5.       Did you check the manufacturer’s website for the compatible drivers?

Android drives usually appear as a MP3 player, using the Microsoft built in MTP protocol.   They should appear as a removable device and will not a drive letter.

I have done all that you suggested and now have a greyed out HTC phone on my devices BUT I cannot enter the code given by windows.   I have tried the phone keyboard and pressed call.   I havve tried the text keyboard and pressed enter.  Doesn't seem to work

I have followed through several pages and finally got my new devices to recognise my HTC but it is greyed out.   I am trying to enter the pairing code but although it tells me to enter the number on my device keypad (I do) it doesn't say which one.   If I do it on the phone key pad I have to click on 'call' and get told there is no such number.    If I enter it on the text keypad and press 'enter' nothing happens at all.   I cannot bring up a keypad without opening some sort of programme.   Sorry to be so stupid

Note: Steps mentioned in the above article applies to Windows 7 as well

Method 3: I would suggest you to uninstall and reinstall the bluetooth drivers and check if you have the same issue.

a. Click Start. In the Start Search box type "devmgmt.msc" and press Enter.
b. Expand "Bluetooth and peripheral"  double-click on the entry of the Bluetooth.
c. Click the tab "Driver", click "Uninstall".
d. Click Start. In the Start Search box type "appwiz.cpl" and press Enter.
e. Remove the entries related to the Bluetooth.
Then reinstall the driver with your driver CD that came with your computer.
Alternatively, you can try to uninstall the driver from the Device Manager, and then go to the computer or the device Manufactures website download the latest driver

NOTE: Don’t uninstall the drivers until you have the source to install the drivers back to your computer. Also create a system restore point before you uninstall the drivers
