Question

HP Multi-function printers may not work as expected after upgrading from Windows Vista to Windows 7

Hello,

I just upgraded to Windows 7 from Windows Vista and my HP multi-function printer doesn’t work. I can still print if I print from an application but when I try to use the buttons on the printer nothing happens. I also can’t check things like ink levels and I can’t scan. Is this a known issue? What can I do to fix this?

Thanks

Christi

Answer

Hello Christi,

This is a known issue with the HP Solution Center and upgrading from Windows Vista to Windows 7. Basically the HP Solution Center doesn’t upgrade properly to Windows 7 because of some required libraries don’t get migrated during the upgrade. To resolve the issue, click Start, All Programs and click Windows Update, and then check for and install the update for KB 975891.

For more information on the issue, click the link below to view the KB article.

KB975891 HP Multifunction Printers and HP Full Feature Software or HP Basic Driver solutions do not work as expected after a computer upgrades from Windows Vista to Windows 7

Note: You can also download and install the appropriate HP device software for Windows 7 from http://www.HP.com

Thanks

Bobby

I also cannot get the scanner on my HP CM1017 MFP to work.  It's as if the scanner doesn't exist.

I am sorry dareddog, but it is bunch of bs, and you know it.
How is it Microsoft fault when HP refused to support their own products? I bought (for example) LJ3015 not so long ago, and guess what ... NO support for VISTA 64 nor Windows 64 bit.  HP simply REFUSED to port / patch THEIR application to even install.  BROTHER and others have done it for their users very promply (check their websites, google it... oops ... bing it!). This made me rethink my position on HP as a company. From now on I will try to avoid them like a plague.... I bought their original  Windows Home SERVER EX475 ... Same ____ (excuse my anger, all the therapy down the drain...).  2 years, and 3 newer  models later, they left me and others hanging without real support (no software upgrade/maintenance).  Real business "geniuses"! I guess they must have graduated from the oh-so-famous Intuit "Customer ill-service University".... another Silicon Valley software disaster .... but I digress.

BTW, I WAS able to get the full functionality for my LJ3015 using both professional FAX and SCAN application and by using Virtual environment to install the original HP software. Now I AM happy ....(not with HP that is).

Rassi,

Did you try to run it under XP Mode (Professional, Ultimate versions only)?. I got my LJ3015 all-in-one work. Also these versions of Windows 7 have their own FAx and Scan application, which may work with your printer.

No, I only have Home Premium so the "built-in" XP mode doesn't run under that as far as I know.  Would a 3rd party virtual server possibly work?  Where do I access the "built-in" fax/scan app for Windows 7?  I know that back in XP there was a fax app that came with the install disc but it wasn't installed by default.  Any help/guidance along the way here would be very much appreciated.

Thank you!

Hello Rassi,

The patch has  been released on Windows Update now, just check for updates and it should be offered. Or you can check the HP site for the Windows 7 driver.

Add Canon Multi Function printers to the list.  I have been unable to get my Canon Pixma MP780 to work since installing Win7 despite hours of effort with Windows technical support.  I suspect the right drivers simply are not available, despite the claims from the manufacturers to the contrary.

I am having a strange printing problem with my HP Photosmart C4280 All-in-One.  I can't print from my Win7 machine, but I can print from my MacBook pro to the same printer shared from the Win7 machine.

When I attempt to print locally, the pint queue will show all the expected information (job, status, size, etc) and will go through seemingly normal operations.  However, when the queue indicates that printing is finished, nothing comes out of the printer!  Printing from the Mac works just fine.
