Hi,

Cyclic redundancy check errors normally occur with damaged or faulty discs. This could have occurred during the burning process, in transit or could have just been duds fresh from the factory.

Method 1:

Try to use the external hard drive in a different computer and check whether you are able to access the data that is present on the external hard drive or you can try to connect it to a different port and check.

Method 2:

It might be that some data that is present on the external hard drive is corrupted. I would suggest you to check the drive for errors. Follow the steps mentioned in the article given below.

Once you have checked the drive then try to access files and if you are able to access then backup the files and then format the hard drive.

Method 3:

I would suggest you to run chkdsk from recovery environment. To run check disk from Window recovery environment (WinRE), you need Windows 7 DVD, boot the computer to Win RE from the elevated command prompt, and try to do a CHKDSK. You can follow the steps mentioned below to run CHKDSK:

Step 1:

a.       Use the Windows 7 DVD to start the computer in Windows Recovery (WinRE).

b.      In WinRE, open a command prompt.

c.       To do this, follow these steps:

                                i.           On the Install Windows screen, select the appropriate Language to install, Time and

ii.           Currency format, and Keyboard or input method options, and then click Next.

d.      Click Repair your computer.

e.      Click the Windows 7 installation that you want to repair, and then click Next.

f.        Click Command Prompt.
