Windows Explorer Column Heading Permanent???

I am very frustrated with Windows Explorer in Windows 7, and formerly Vista where I found the same problem.

In the right side panel, the file names are listed. To their right are a number of columns. These column headings are customarily: Name, Type, Size, Date Modified, etc. However, Windows changes these column headings depending on Windows interpretation of the file types and it guesses new column headings to replace these with. I find: #, Title, Album, Contributing Artist, Rating..... I don't care what Rating any of my files has, much less the Contributing Artist, etc.. Few of my files are music or video. Even still, those headings do not help me.

Is there a way to STOP Windows from changing this, to select the column headings I want, and to keep them permanent for all my directories?

Edit / Folder Options / View / Apply to All Folders does not correct this.

Tom,

Windows presents those column headers based on the folder's content type.  So yes it will vary for each type.  A couple of ideas that come to mind are the following.

1) disable the autodiscovery feature.

2) simply choose the "list" view so that details are not shown.  That way you won't see the un-useful columns like "contributing artist".

For the first option, there is a registry hack available but as with any registry hack, I would recommend that you make a backup of the reigstry key you're working with or a full system backup before you go mucking around in the registry.  You can Google up some links on how to do that.  The registry hack that I am referring to is pretty simple but you must make sure you follow the directions precisely.
