Question

How to change "my documents" or called documents in Windows 7 to a network location?

I'm tring to change the path of the documents folder from the local HD to a network location, but I don't see any place where I can do that in win 7.  When I click on the "my documents" adn click include folder, I get the following error message.
"this network location can't be included becase it is not indexed".
How do I index a network location because I've googled it, and nothing comes up for indexing a network location.
Thanks, Dan

Right-click on the "Documents" folder in Windows Explorer. Choose Properties and click on the Location tab. If you don't get a Location tab then you are clicking on the wrong icon.

I'm in windows explorer, but in windows 7, there is no "location" tab under the properties.  that's probably only in windows xp and vista, because it's not in windows 7.
After I click on properties, the only tab I have is the "library" tab, then under there, there is "set save location", "include a folder" and "remove"

There is no location tab anywhere.

Yes it is. I used it here on this Windows 7. You are clicking on the wrong icon, like I said in my reply.
In Windows Explorer click on Computer in the L/H pane. Than expand Local Disk C (or whatever your primary partition is called). Then click on Users Then click on your User account. Right-click on THAT Documents folder and see if the Location tab appears in properties.

Thanks GordonBP, I was clicking on the documents from the start menu.

I followed your instructions and when I opened up the users account, there is no documents folder.
Here's all the folders that are in the user's profile folder.  I even unhide the system files as well.

Don't worry about it, I found a work around, it would be nice ot know how to do it for the future.
I set her my documents to be available off line, and after I did that, then I was able to include her my documents subfolder as the link, and it worked.

Thanks, Dan

There is no "documents" folder, that's what I'm trying to say.
When I click on hte "my documents" folder, it says: C:\users\profilename|my documents refers toa  location that is unavailable.
It could be on a hard drive on this computer, or on a network.  Check to make sure that the disk is properly inserted, or that you are connected to the internet or your network, and then try again.  If it still cannot be located, the information might have been moved to a different loation.

So there is no "documents" folder.

Try a directory symbolic link to get around the indexing requirement:

### Relocate local Documents to Network
D:\Users\lars>rename Documents Documents.original D:\Users\lars>mklink /D D:\Users\lars\Documents "\\myserver\users\lars\My Documents"
